Journalist, Blogger, Lover of Life

Welcome!

Hi, my name is Lis Stewart and I am a freelance journalist studying print journalism and political science at Utah State University. I have been active in the journalism world for the last several years and enjoy every minute of it.

Currently, I am the communications intern for the Utah Senate’s 2012 Legislative session, manage the Book Table Blog and write for the Utah Statesman. I have also written for online and national magazines. –The bulk of my recent work is posted in categories on the sidebar.– Thank you for taking the time to view my website.

A Little About Myself:

I was born in  Ogden, Utah. I lived in the same house, in the same bedroom, for nearly the first nineteen years of my life. One of the biggest influences on my decision to write for a living was my mother, who studied journalism through high school and college and always told me I can do anything I set my mind to.

Work is an ethic I cannot ignore in my life. I had my first “real” job when I was fifteen working in a Snowie Shack, and have since held many other jobs, all of which I left with an honorable reputation and in good standing with my employer.

On a whim, I signed up to compete with other high school students in an academic olympiad at Utah State University my senior year. To my surprise, I won a scholarship. I entered USU as a sophomore (credit-wise) in Fall 2009 and have enjoyed every minute of it.

Currently:

I am a senior at USU majoring in journalism with a print emphasis. My minor is political science, a subject I am very passionate in studying but do not enjoy arguing over. I am the communications intern for the Utah Senate. I busy myself in various activities, such as managing the Book Table’s Blog  and Facebook, and writing for the Utah Statesman and Cache Sports Media. I will be a managing editor for Aggie BluePrint Magazine this fall. This spring, I was awarded the Standard Examiner scholarship and named an outstanding print senior in the JCOM department at USU. I enjoy horticulture, writing,  social media, being outdoors despite the allergies, photography, movies, books, geocaching and being with my family and friends. I love planning road trips with friends and getting in my car to go randomly explore places when I have free time.

Goals:

Professionally, I hope one day to end up in Washington, D.C. reporting for a major newspaper. As previously stated, politics is my passion and I love to be in the middle of when things happen so I can educate others on what will affect them.

Last year I made a New Year’s Resolution to try all the interesting fruit in the produce section at the grocery store. I didn’t get to all of them, so I intend to continue through the new year. At the moment, I’m on the lookout for star fruit, dragon fruit, and fresh Hawaiian pineapple, so if you see any in the Salt Lake area let me know.
